Minister Çavuş asserts precautions were taken to prevent FMD outbreak
Nicosia, December 16, 2025 (TAK): Minister for Agriculture and Natural Resources Hüseyin Çavuş announced that key measures have been taken to stop the spread of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD).
Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Çavuş said that 500,000 doses of vaccine would arrive on Monday night, and vaccination would begin on Tuesday with cattle.
He stated that the viral disease does not affect humans; however, it is highly contagious and can lead to significant economic losses.
Çavuş added that authorities categorically stopped animal movement in Yeniboğaziçi, where the disease was detected, and made disinfection of all agricultural equipment mandatory.
